A LOVE STORY

It is driving me nuts if the title of this article is “Here Comes the Bride or “A Love Story.” I can’t think of anything attractive about the title of this article. I should have done the article after I interviewed Winah last June 2011, when what transpired was still fresh on my mind. Only lately that I created a new blog, leaving behind the trails of Qualfon Madness and start scribbling back again.
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

It was in 1970 the movie “Love Story” portrayed by Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal was shown. I was a young lass then. I felt excited watching love story. I put myself though I was the actress falling in love with a gorgeous guy. Even now I have this kind of fantasy. The last parting words of Oliver (Ryan O’Neal)when his father apologized was “Love means you never have to say you’re sorry.” This quotation lives forever. The movie was really so touching, it broke my soul that I cried. So many love stories have been written and produced into a movie but there are also great love stories that just become footprints in the sand.

It was an awkward moment when I had a tête-à-tête conversation with Winah last June. It was awkward because she had few days left and she would be leaving the portals of Qualfon after 5 years. I bet she had no option but to sacrifice her career in the name of love. I had a mundane feeling that I would burst into tears during our conversation. Whatever happened during our conversation I will discuss later on. I want to talk first about her heydays in Operations.

When you saw in the 7th floor a Shift Manager with big black eyes, instantly you would recognize the face, that she was Winah. Her eyes speak much of her soul. No greedy bone in her. I noticed that she liked to wear between pink and black blouses. Wore eyeglasses sometimes that she somewhat looked like a teacher or a kind of a genius. No qualms and head cool over our shenanigans about Operations Management. Not taking things to personal when  we supervisors were bombarding her with too many layered issues  on the floor. I call this an  argumentum ad baculum (a negative form of an argument). When she held meeting among her supervisors her agenda were properly designed and she was taking notes of our concerns. She was well organized but not bookish to the extent.

Hmm yummy
Today, I took out a piece of crumpled paper from my pouch. These are the notes that I jotted down when I interviewed Winah. My golly, about three (3) months that I have been keeping this until today I decided to write this down in timing to the forthcoming wedding of Winah and his partner to be. This might be the best wedding gift I can give her. Just don’t forget to invite us when you hit the aisle.

This is the highlight:

Q & A portion:

Q: How do you feel living Qualfon?
A: I feel sad because I have been 5 years in the Company. I’ll be missing fun and career but I can’t give-up my love life for my career.
Q: What are your challenges as Shift Manager?
A: Time Management, work is so demanding and no time to make myself look beautiful (giggles)
Q: What do you feel is the most challenging?
A: Make all end meets and beating the deadline
Q: Being 5 years in Qualfon – part of it you have been supervisor for almost 4 years, what is more challenging being a supervisor or a Shift Manager.
A: Shift Manager is more challenging. You have to look up at the larger scale, look up at the management side. Being a manager too, you are sandwiched between Operations and the Management. Being a supervisor the scope is within the Team only and the attitudes.
Q: May I know your course?
A: AB Political Science graduated at University of Cebu and second year level law student at University of Southern Philippines. I stopped taking law due to my job which entails much of time.
Q: Do you want to proceed taking law again if by chance?
A: Unless my partner will come back to Philippines.
Q: Now that you leaving Qualfon, do you like to work in Singapore to join your partner?
A: If given a chance, why not but for the meantime I would like to prepare the wedding.
Q: When is your wedding slated?
A: November 19, 2011.
Q: How do you feel being married soon?
A: I feel excited but with mix feelings. I will be marrying my ideal man.
Q: How many kids do you want?
A: Before I want to have 6 kids but now, I only want 2 kids, 1 boy and 1 girl.

Q: I notice that you like pink color. What is in it?
A: My mother worked in a Mental Hospital in UK. When mental patients were depressed or attacked by lunacy, they put these patients in a pink room to calm them down. To me pink is really a great color to calm us down.
Q. And in black?
A: I want to look slim.

Niño & Winah madly in love

About Winnie the Pooh:

Winah has vast collections of Winnie the Pooh stuff toys. She said that she met Winnie the Pooh in high school. Since then she had an impulse collecting Winnie but more on stuff toys. In the book, “Seize the Night”, Winnie character even though a bear has never give up possibilities the world can offer.

This is my favorite line from Winnie that I would like to impart Winah:

“If ever there is tomorrow when we're not together.. there is something you must always remember. you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. but the most important thing is, even if we're apart.. i'll always be with you.”

Sweet couple

About her love story:

I dig deeper when I asked her about her love story. I knew this was really something personal but I was elated when Winah did not squelched answering my questions.

Niño is the name of her husband to be. They were both working in a Global Grand – a private company. Winah had a hidden love for Niño but at that time, Niño had a girlfriend that he was expecting to marry. However the twist of the consequence, turned upside down the world of Niño. Niño’s girlfriend got preggy, fathered by other man. This made Niño grieved and forlorn. In his world, she was the woman that he loved so much, more than his own life. As means of catharsis, he would share his hurting soul to Winah oblivious to Niño that Winah was falling in love with him. Winah’s heart bleeds everytime Niño poured his hurts and despairs over the girl. Niño did not realize that she was in love with him. If this situation continued, this would drive Winah crazy. Winah admitted that she was the one who did court Niño. When she decided to resign she left Niño a love letter expressing her love for him. The letter was an awakening call to Niño that there was a woman embracing and loving him. To make the story short, their love blossom and they will tie the knot on November 19.

Winah had to give up her career in the name of love so had to tender her resignation. I salute her for her decision. It was not an option but a choice.

Winah, our CONGRATULATIONS. May your life be blessed ahead with beautiful kids.
