Peeling The Onion

The onion is an illuminating bulb. But only by peeling its many layers, can one reveal whether it has a sweet heart or a rotten core.

The other day I posted in FB that I need to peel my onion. My kiddo, Bryan was so worried about my post and he commented; “be blissful mommy.” That poor kid thought that I was miserable and suicidal of petty situations. I do appreciate his concern about me. I am not suicidal. I am even afraid to die. Who doesn’t really? Life is short even we live 100 years in this aging planet. That kid was too sweet. This article doesn't mean too that I will teach you how to peel the onion like in cooking. I know you are smarter than me.

Peeling an onion is a metaphoric statement used to describe an enlightened approach to problem solving. By methodically removing each layer of the onion, one is able to appreciate the complexities at each level as you eventually reach the core where you can objectively define the problem. Literally, when we peel onion, we cry because of its sulfuric acid content.

One to measure most that has contributed to what we are to today is the upbringing of our parents. Parents are always the best teacher.  Others might be the result of our traumatic experiences in the past that keep on haunting us to the present time or even to the future. People with bipolar depression are hard to deal with sometimes because the bad experiences keep on traumatizing them, sinking in them. They can undergo therapy but in the end, it is still them can eliminate the “devil” in their mind.

With the secluded road ahead of you, with all the negative thoughts in you, how are you going to peel your onion? If I give you a piece of paper, what are the positive approaches that you what to do? If I give you an empty canvass, what do you want to paint?

I can be a good motivator but my ‘Achilles' heel’ I don't know how to motivate myself. If you are going to ask me, these are what I want to do.

1. Accept challenges positively. Life cannot be one big thrilling day without these challenges. I say everyday, I love life. I love my kids. I love people around me.

2. I will paint a garden with beautiful flowers and plants lavished with thousand of butterflies in their different colors. Birds are humming to their tune. My family patching up their differences. Children playing and laughing. And a tall guy in white robe preaching the words of God-Jesus!

Life is just a matter of what we think. Grab a pen and paper and think what you want to eliminate most from yourself to make you a better person. Then you will be at peace with yourself.
